CTS EVENTIM’s statement on yesterday’s Ticketdirect judgment by the German Federal Court of Justice

Limited financial implications

Ruling is confined to ticket orders for which a print@home fee of 2.50 Euro is charged

These represent around 1 million Euro in group revenue

Munich, 24 August 2018. CTS EVENTIM, one of the world’s leading providers of ticketing and live entertainment, assesses yesterday’s Federal Court of Justice (BGH) judgment on Ticketdirect charges as having only a moderate financial impact. The ruling applies only to those ticket orders for which a print@home fee of 2.50 Euro is charged in the German web shop. This fee is charged on a per-order basis, not per ticket.

In the judgment handed down yesterday, the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) stated that an adjustment to that fee may well be acceptable. Secondly, the ticket orders addressed by the judgment only account for approximately five per cent of the total number handled by eventim.de. In total, they represent sales revenue of around one million Euro – and therefore a mere thousandth of Group revenue.

The relatively low popularity of Ticketdirect in Germany is partly attributable to the fact that many venues are publicly-owned. This is one reason why the access control technologies needed for Ticketdirect are not as widespread as in many other European countries. The proceeds from print@home make it possible for numerous venues in Germany to offer their visitors an additional, very convenient and secure option for gaining admission.

CTS EVENTIM acknowledges the BGH judgment and will implement it accordingly. As soon as the detailed grounds for judgment are released, the company will make the appropriate adjustments to its Ticketdirect service.
