Press Release

Outstanding Season ahead for Waldbühne Berlin

Waldbühne Berlin awaiting record-breaking season in 2011 / Fifteen major events booked so far / Ranging from rock and pop to classical music, dance and comedy.

Berlin, April 19th 2011. This summer Berlin’s Waldbühne is in for a season of unprecedented ticket sales. At present, the schedule already lists 15 major events. Europe’s finest amphitheatre has been flourishing ever since it was taken over by CTS EVENTIM AG in early 2009. Similar to last year’s season the repertoire’s focus is again set on rock and pop shows as well as on classical music.

For rock and pop fans the 2011 open-air season has lots of high-class acts to offer, such as The Kings of Leon (whose only concert in Germany the Waldbühne will be hosting on June 14th 2011), The Eagles (June 23rd 2011), Joe Cocker (August 13th 2011), Peter Maffay (May 28th 2011), and many more.

Over the years, the Waldbühne has also become a home of classical music – providing a spectacular backdrop to the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra’s traditional concert season finale. This summer there will be five evenings of „Waldbühne Meets Classics“, starting with the celebrated violinist David Garrett on June 10th, followed by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra (July 2nd), a joint appearance by Anna Netrebko, Erwin Schrott and Jonas Kaufmann (August 16th), the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra conducted by Daniel Barenboim (August 21st) and a staging of the opera „Dido and Aeneas“ by star-choreographer Sascha Waltz (August 27th).

In the summer of 2010 the Waldbühne proudly presented an impressive series of worldclass acts ranging from Pink via Prince to Leonard Cohen. All in all, more than 115.000 people came to enjoy the unique atmosphere of Berlin’s famous arena. The fact that openair events are particularly popular due to their very special atmosphere is corroborated by a current GFK market research study. Accordingly, a significant increase in attendance is expected for the coming season.

CTS EVENTIM‘s mission to present a growing number of superior events and thus support the Waldbühne’s reputation of being a truly exceptional venue is obviously taking the course of a success story. „We are happy to see that our commitment to this marvelous arena has proven worthwhile, and that the Waldbühne Berlin once again finds favor with the world’s greatest and most significant artists. After all, this place is sure to turn any concert into an unforgettable experience – for audiences and performers alike.“, says Rainer Appel, Vice President of CTS EVENTIM AG.
