Record attendance for Waldbuehne Berlin

More than 200.000 visitors in 2011 season / Focus on pop, rock and classical music / First highlights announced for 2012.

Berlin, 19 October 2011. This year’s season turned out to be a record-breaking summer for Berlin’s Waldbuehne: More than 200.000 visitors enjoyed the varied choice of events at Europe’s most beautiful Open Air venue.

In predominantly good weather, the entirely renovated and recently enlarged 450 m² stage in picturesque Murellenschlucht hosted an impressive line-up of stars from the world of rock and pop, classical music, dance and comedy. Apart from the Kings of Leon’s only show in Germany, this year’s rock music highlights included concerts by Peter Maffay, Joe Cocker and the Eagles.

Fans of classical music were treated to five outstanding events at the Waldbuehne in 2011. Violinist David Garrett, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the joint appearance of  vocal virtuosos Anna Netrebko, Erwin Schrott and Jonas Kaufmann, and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra conducted by Daniel Barenboim met with the enthusiasm of audiences and critics alike. The season ended with the very first performance of a complete opera - Dido & Aeneas, staged by star-choreographer Sascha Waltz.

CTS EVENTIM AG, who assumed operation of the Waldbuehne in early 2009, express their satisfaction. Rainer Appel, CTS EVENTIM Vice President: „We have always had faith in the Waldbuehne’s potential. The fantastic 2011 season proves that our decision in favor of this unique venue was a thoroughly good one. Since we took over there has been a steady upward trend. Our thanks go to all artists and promoters who choose the Waldbuehne as a venue, but above all to the people who attend the shows. They can look forward
to another marvelous range of events in 2012”. Next season‘s highlights will include Die Ärzte who are going to finish their "Das Ende ist noch nicht vorbei" („The end isn’t over yet”) tour with three concerts at the Waldbuehne (on August 17th, 18th and 19th, 2012), and Dieter Thomas Kuhn, whose Waldbuehne parties have definitely reached cult status (August 25, 2012).
