Berlin, 27 May 2016: Next weekend marks the start of the 2016 ‘Waldbuehne’ season, with a total of 18 events. A bevy of top German and international acts will grace Europe’s most beautiful open-air amphitheatre for many sold out shows.
The programme for the summer months ahead contains a mixed bag of rock, pop, heavy metal, beat and classical music. The series starts on 28 May 2016 with rock legends PUHDYS + CITY + KARAT, followed on 31 May by Iron Maiden with their exclusive headline open-air show. One of the highlights this season are the three sold-out gigs by Rammstein, who will be playing Waldbuehne Berlin for the first time ever. On three days in July (8th, 9th and 11th), more than 60,000 Rammstein fans can look forward to three home appearances and a fantastic open-air atmosphere.
A month before that, on 8 June, Black Sabbath will be giving their sold-out concert in this natural-ravine-turned-amphitheatre. On their farewell world tour, ‘THE END’, Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler will close the book on the greatest metal band of all time.
Another sold-out highlight on the Waldbuehne Berlin is the charity festival ‘PEACE x PEACE – Your Voice For Children!’ on 5 June. Top German and international acts will be collecting donations for children growing up amid war, or as refugees. Bands include Seeed, Beatsteaks, Aloe Blacc, MoTrip, Namika, Elif, Dat Adam, Zugezogen Maskulin and Fetsum, as well as the P x P Allstars band specially formed for the festival by Max Herre, Joy Denalane, Patrice, Clueso, Megaloh, Afrob and Samy Deluxe, not to mention Cro, who will be appearing with Tessy and Danju as a special showcase.
The list of top acts has even more in store, with unforgettable appearances by rock and pop legends like Herbert Groenemeyer (7 June), Paul McCartney (14 June), Neil Young & Promise of the Real (21 July) and Sting (1 August).
Classical highlights at the Waldbuehne are traditionally the preserve of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, who will be playing a Czech evening on 26 June. Canadian maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin, one of the new generation of world-famous conductors, will be conducting the renowned Berlin orchestra. On 13 August, Daniel Barenboim and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra will be making their sixth appearance in the perfect setting provided by Berlin’s Waldbuehne. They will be joined this year by Martha Argerich, the legendary pianist.
Another established tradition is the torchlight concert (24 September) so greatly enjoyed by kids. For the 18th time in succession, the young audience can swing along and rock along to the sounds of the Rumpelstil band, surrounded by a sea of lights.
This year, visitors can not only look forward to many musical highlights, but can also enjoy a totally new catering concept. The catering infrastructure has been completely redesigned, and additional food trucks enable customised offers for each individual event. Other major improvements in services and in the overall appearance of the Waldbuehne will also ensure that concerts are an enjoyable experience in every respect.
Rainer Appel, Senior Vice President at CTS EVENTIM: ‘We are delighted that, in 2016, the Waldbuehne in Berlin can seamlessly continue its success story of the last few years. It looks like it’s going to be another record season.’
